Brian Malthouse has called Cincinnati home for more than 46 years. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, he met his wife, Leisa, during their freshman year, and this October they will celebrate 45 years of marriage. Together they have built a close-knit family that includes their three children, Morgan, Brittain, and Conner, and three grandchildren, Rooney, Ellis, and Millie.
Throughout his career as a CPA and business leader, Brian has been known not only for his professional expertise but for the relationships he has built along the way. After beginning his career with Arthur Andersen in Cincinnati, he joined VonLehman in 1990, where he eventually served as Managing Partner from 2009 to 2021. Today, he continues advising clients at Dean Dorton, helping businesses navigate complex tax and operational challenges. Brian has also dedicated his time to leadership and service, serving as President of the Cincinnati Athletic Club, Kenwood Country Club, and CPAmerica, a national association of independent CPA firms.
Outside of work, Brian has always embraced an active lifestyle. From wrestling and golf in his younger years to marathon running as an adult, fitness has remained a constant source of discipline and balance. That commitment became especially important after his stage 4 cancer diagnosis in 2022.
Since his diagnosis, Brian has undergone three surgeries, including two extensive Cytoreduction + HIPEC procedures at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Despite the challenges of treatment and recovery, he remained focused on maintaining both his physical and mental strength, often returning to exercise as soon as possible.
Brian considers his cancer journey a blessing in many ways. It has strengthened his appreciation for family, friends, colleagues, and the medical teams at Barrett Cancer Center and MD Anderson who have supported him throughout his treatment. Having surpassed the expectations initially given at diagnosis, he views each day as an opportunity to express gratitude and continue making meaningful memories with those he loves.
Brian’s story is one of resilience, gratitude, faith, friendship, and a deep commitment to living life with purpose, optimism, and joy.
